SMS welcomes Smart DCC to our Bolton facility to accelerate the UK’s smart energy transition

Bolton, UK – 20 August 2025 The SMS team was pleased to welcome the Smart DCC team to our Bolton facility this week, reinforcing our joint efforts to accelerate the rollout of smart meters and support Britain’s transition to a smarter, greener energy system.
Representatives from Smart DCC – including Chris Lovatt, Daniel Jessop, Sam Haywood, and Charlotte Semp – joined SMS colleagues Chris Thewlis, Tom Woolley, Tereza Borges, and Mark Evans. Together, they explored ways to leverage data, technology, and strategic industry collaboration to scale the smart meter rollout and make tangible progress toward Net Zero.
Smart DCC operates the UK’s secure, national smart metering network – which connects smart meters in over 30 million homes and businesses to energy suppliers and network operators. The network supports critical services such as dual-band communication, smart meter upgrades, and the Demand Flexibility Service, enabling secure, efficient data transfer and innovation at scale.
Our meeting reinforced the urgent need for cohesive partnerships in building the digital backbone of Britain’s energy future. Smart meters are a key enabler of energy efficiency, consumer empowerment, and grid flexibility – and by working together, we can accelerate the rollout, improve reliability, and deliver real value to households and businesses.
