SMS sponsors Energy Capital Partnership Conference to accelerate the energy transition

SMS was proud to sponsor last week’s Energy Capital Partnership Conference in Birmingham – a key event bringing together leaders from across the energy sector to accelerate collaboration, innovation, and delivery on the journey to net zero.
Tom Woolley, SMS’s Smart Product and Strategy Director, contributed to the agenda with a session on Fully Funded Low Carbon Tech Retrofit. He highlighted that scaling retrofit is not only a technical challenge, but also a financial one. With the right funding models, the UK can accelerate the rollout of low-carbon upgrades across homes and businesses, turning the ambition of net zero into a practical reality.
The conference programme spanned the full spectrum of challenges and opportunities facing the UK’s energy system. Sessions examined the social and economic role of people and place in the transition, alongside the mechanisms for financing large-scale change.
Speakers shared perspectives on the importance of collaboration across the retrofit supply chain and the value of whole-system planning to ensure that investment and innovation are aligned. Practical case studies brought these themes to life, with examples of place-based delivery in action and insights into how smart energy systems can support local authorities and communities in meeting their net zero goals.
For SMS, the event underscored the urgent need to link technical capability with practical funding solutions. By working with partners across the sector, we can help scale the infrastructure and innovation required to deliver sustainable energy systems that benefit households, businesses, and local communities alike.
