Metis by SMS wins Net Zero Engagement Award at the 2025 Utility Week Awards

Summary

Metis by SMS has won the Net Zero Engagement Award at the 2025 Utility Week Awards. Delivered in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council, their winning entry – the Energy Saver App – has been recognised for its standout impact in driving household engagement in the energy transition and enabling residents to explore fully funded renewable upgrades. The award underscores how innovative digital tools and accessible funding models are empowering communities to cut carbon, reduce consumption, and lower energy costs.

Celebrating collaborative net zero delivery

Metis by SMS has been named the winner of the Net Zero Engagement Award at this year’s Utility Week Awards, a category recognising organisations that engage customers in meaningful, measurable ways to achieve Net Zero. The Energy Saver App developed by Metis in partnership with Oxfordshire County Council stood out for its ability to help households understand their energy use and take practical steps towards lower-carbon living.

The win builds on Metis’s recent success at the edie Net Zero Awards 2025, where the Energy Saver App was named Smart Systems and Flexibility Project of the Year. Together, these awards underline the programme’s strong engagement, proven impact across Oxfordshire, and its position as a leading model for delivering mass low-carbon retrofit.

A model for household engagement

The Energy Saver App connects directly to smart meter data to provide personalised energy insights, helping residents manage consumption, understand costs, and identify opportunities for savings or renewable upgrades.

Its performance to date shows strong, sustained engagement:

  • 9,100+ Energy Saver App downloads
  • 75% of users spending 5+ minutes per week in the app
  • 65% conversion rate from trial to installation
  • £375 average annual savings for homeowners

Alongside this digital engagement, the programme continues to deliver fully funded solar PV and battery systems across Oxfordshire, with more than 200 installations of solar PV and battery installations completed to date to generate low-carbon power for households.

A testament to the power of partnership

This award reflects the combined efforts of Metis, Oxfordshire County Council, and delivery partners across the programme. By integrating digital engagement, trusted local delivery, and accessible funding, the collaboration is demonstrating a scalable model for accelerating household-level decarbonisation.
